About the Career Development Center

The Career Development Center provides services for in-school youth with disabilities and adult employment services programming for young adults who are referred by the Office of Rehabilitation Services (ORS).  The CDC serves Rhode Island public and private school districts and individuals statewide.  The CDC has offices in the West Bay, Providence, Southern, and Northern regions of Rhode Island.

The Career Development Center offers both In-School Youth Services and Out-of-School Young Adult Services.

In-School Youth Services

The Career Development Center  provides various services to students with disabilities who are registered for Pre-Employment Transition Services (PRE-ETS) through the Office of Rehabilitation Services.  These services assist students and their families with making informed decisions to make a successful transition to adult life.

PRE-ETS Services available include: 

  • Job Exploration Services
  • Community Based Work Experience (CBWE)
  • Tri Employment Program
  • Summer Work
  • Summer Employment Alliance (SEA)
  • Career Compass (Middle School Career Awareness Series)

Out-of-School Young Adult Services

The CDC provides a variety of services for young adults who have begun their adult lives, with the goal of assisting them to become successful, independent members of their communities. Some of these services include:

  • Vocational Evaluation
  • Community Based Work Experience (CBWE)
  • Summer Work
  • Employment Services (Job Development, Job Placement, and Job Retention)
  • Time Limited Job Coaching
  • Job Preparation Program
  • Externship
