About the Opportunity
to Learn Program
West Bay Collaborative’s unique Opportunity To Learn (OTL) Program provides individual instruction for secondary students requiring a non-traditional school setting tailored to their individual needs.
Students work toward graduation and a diploma from their home school with individualized support to attain the graduation requirements of their sending districts. Students are referred to the program from their home districts and accepted based on program criteria.
All instruction is provided by a certified secondary special education teacher in a calm, quiet and inviting setting. Located at our Central Office at 144 Bignall Street in Warwick, students engage in a program that combines 1:1 and small group instruction with a home-based online learning experience under the guidance of the program teacher. In addition, a clinical social worker provides social and emotional supports to assist students to increase community and school experiences within their home districts.
When our OTL students are ready, they participate in individually focused and coordinated activities in a wide variety of settings in collaboration with state agencies, community partners, and local post-secondary programs designed to assist them to achieve their post-high school goals which may include:
- Post-secondary education
- Vocational education
- Employment
- Community engagement
- Independent living
Students participate in:
- Career exploration
- Development of employment skills
- Development of independent living skills
- Community-based learning experiences
