Alternative Learning Programs

Learning Programs
for Grades K-12

The Alternative Learning Programs offered by the West Bay Collaborative were developed for students in grades K-12. Each program is located in a member district setting, with the K-6 Primary School program operating in Cranston and the Upper School for grades 6-12 hosting students in Warwick. Each program accepts students from districts across the state and both settings provide individualized and small group instruction in a therapeutic environment.

Our goal in the ALP programs is to help students return to their sending districts once they have learned the skills necessary to be successful within a traditional school environment.

Primary School (Grades K-6)

The Alternative Learning Program Primary School provides educational services to students in grades K through 6. Located in Cranston, the ALP Primary School provides academic rigor along with individualized social/emotional supports for elementary aged students in a highly structured educational and therapeutic setting.

Upper School (Grades 6-12)

The Upper School at West Bay Collaborative offers students a rigorous academic experience through the use of a blended learning model, with teachers and staff members who work individually with students  to ensure that their social, emotional, and academic needs are met so that each student can achieve their academic goals.

Opportunity to Learn

West Bay Collaborative’s unique Opportunity To Learn (OTL) Program provides individual instruction for secondary students who require a non-traditional school setting tailored to their individual needs.

Special Education Services

West Bay Collaborative is able to provide individualized, group, or system-wide programs and related services, usually at a significant cost savings to our clients. We work extensively with students at risk, and we train our own staff in a variety of de-escalation and crisis prevention techniques.  As a result we are frequently asked to provide temporary or full-year Behavioral Specialists to districts for students with social/emotional/behavioral needs.
