Cutting Edge Workshops

Dear Colleagues,Two separate workshops being offered by West Bay on topics of major interest to current, innovative educational leaders.  Please see flyers below. The first workshop, on Thursday, November 13th, will focus on those meta-cognitive skills that greatly increase students' chances of future success, in high school, college, and beyond.  Dr. Rick Kamal, a leading educational researcher and author, will share his research, as well as current thinking on how to teach these vital skills to students in middle school, high school, and beyond. Then, on Friday, November 21st, Dr. Kamal will return to West Bay to share ideas on increasing the numbers of young women and minority youth who pursue education and careers in computer science.  He is involved in developing programs for the NSF, and will discuss how our Rhode Island districts can become involved in piloting some new curricula designed to improve the options for these populations of students. Both workshops are being offered at no cost to attendees, but we do need to know who will attend, as seats are limited.  Please feel free to contact me (kostroffwbc@gmail.com) for further information about Dr. Kamal's work, or to register for these sessions.  We are excited about the possibilities these projects offer, and hope you will join us in discussion and as partners in improving our students' opportunities! Best regards, Karen OstroffExecutive Director  FLYERS:          Meta-Cognitive Skills                    Computer Science Education
